Why BECK MEDICAL?

Healthcare providers are doing many more lab tests, more imaging tests, more procedures and more transitions through the system. The opportunities for mistakes, which can be deadly, are increasing as health care becomes more complex. Medical products of the future will become more multifunctional through the use of new technologies to reduce or eliminate these mistakes. This includes products in laboratory diagnostics and well as the actual administration of medicines.

The manufacture of such products requires new, precise technologies. Past medical product manufacturing methods have limitations which do not address the needs and requirements of the future. Nevertheless, IML processes and the latest generation of labels offer the functions of tomorrow: RFID functions for personalization and convergence of healthcare with digital technology. Thermal indication to allow for continuous temperature monitoring to ensure a clear conclusion to the conditions a product has been exposed to during storage and transport. Digital watermarks to prevent counterfeiting. UV absorbers to curtail photodegradation. Abrasion resistance through reverse printing. QR Codes. Magnifying glass functions, etc. Through IML, decorative and functional elements can be combined.

The IML process produces a finished part without need for secondary operations. Through intelligent down-stream systems, the product has full traceability. Logistics related to secondary operations are eliminated, along with multi-touch handling of the products. All this contributes to the overall reduction of manufacturing costs.

The healthcare transformation requires systems and tests that screen, diagnose and monitor a vast range of health conditions with greater speed, accuracy and efficiency. The accurate, digital connection between the patient and the healthcare provider are critical in advancing how healthcare can help people take control of their health and live their fullest possible lives.

Intelligent labels equipped with specific functions will be part of this transformation process. With our expertise in IML technology, we are developing these types of solutions, today. We think outside the box and support our customers in finding processes and solutions for the products of tomorrow.

In the medical industry, sustainability and recyclability are important factors in product development that are incorporated in the process at a very early stage. In the concept phase of a new product, considerations regarding the reuse of raw materials are addressed. The circular economy of plastics includes medical products, with the intent of recycling and increasing the sustainability of these products.

Great advances in recycling have been made, returning recovered plastics back to production of new products. Products manufactured with the IML process can be easily recycled due to the fact that the label and the carrier material can be completely separated. In order to increase the sustainability of medical products, plastic reduction is also critical. IML labels can be used to stabilize the medical disposables, allowing for the wall thickness of these products to be reduced. The properties of the product remain at the same level as the product with higher plastic content.

Medical molding requires higher initial investments, as specifications, validations and requirements dictate the structure and equipment for such manufacturing facilities. When molding is required in a cleanroom, these cost increase more, requiring the most efficient use of the available cleanroom space.

BECK Medical Automation incorporates many functions, carried out in a small space, adhering to cleanroom class ISO 7 standards. Our systems require minimal service and maintenance, due to their design, and meet the requirements for efficient, modern use of medical production areas. By integrating multiple processes in one production cell we eliminate secondary operations and offer end-to-end production. Reducing the potential for contamination, scrap and the risk of efficiency loses.

Precise and repeatable manufacturing is extremely important in medical professions as well as in the research and development of new pharmaceutical products. The production of medical consumables is highly regulated and must meet the highest requirements. We take these requirements very seriously. Our systems are built according to GMP and FDA regulations. We can also offer cleanroom particle count analysis through our partner service providers.

For high-precision applications, we incorporate our patent-pending label adjustment head, which minimizes the influence of the print-to-cut tolerance of the labels and compensates for any variation, automatically. Functional elements, such as scales, labels with RFID chips are placed on the product precisely and with repeat accuracy. In conjunction with the label adjustment head, optical control systems provide process-relevant data feedback that allows for adjustment of the label prior to insertion into the mold. Insuring accurate label placement.

BECK Automation combines innovative strength with 40 years of experience in IML applications. “Thinking outside of the box” is part of our DNA. New ideas often emerge when we face new challenges and develop solutions by looking beyond the obvious. This approach has made us desirable to many medical companies as an open, innovative partner. Our goal is to always provide our customers with the leading edge technologies and economic advantages. Our actions are guided by this focus.

BECK Take-out, BECK IML and BECK Down-Stream comply with the regulations of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are clean room compatible up to class ISO 7. Production steps such as oriented removal, scaling or labelling of hollow bodies by means of functional IML, the insertion of highly transparent films, membranes or functional components prior to injection moulding are carried out with complete precision and efficiency. Fully integrated modules for optical quality assurance and packaging solutions round off the entire manufacturing spectrum.

BECK Medical offers complete solutions from the conceptual design of a system to acceptance. Our specialists provide competent advice on all questions of automation and also optimise already existing manufacturing processes.
